Kannur Lokesh Rahul is an Indian cricketer who is known for his dominating batting. Currently, Rahul is the vice-captain of the Indian National Team in all formats. Rahul was born on 18th April 1992 in Bangalore, Karnataka, India to KN Lokesh and Rajeshwari. His father is a professor and former director at the National Institute of Technology Karnataka (NITK) and his mother is a professor at Mangalore University. He did his schooling at NITK English Medium School. Later he studied at St. Aloysius College. Late he joined Jain University.

When he was just ten years old, he started cricket training. When Rahul was twelve years old, he started playing matches for both Bangalore United Cricket Club and his club in Mangalore. 

KL Rahul is a Right-handed batsman who can occasionally do wicket-keeping. He opens the batting in T20Is and Tests and played in the middle order for ODIs. 

Rahul made his first-class cricket debut for Karnataka in 2010. In that year, he represented his country at the 2010 ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup.

In 2013, Rahul was bought by IPL’s franchise Royal Challengers Bangalore. 

His performance in the 2014-15 Duleep Trophy against Central Zone was highly praised. He scored 185 off 233 balls in the first innings and 130 of 152 in the second. His performance helped him to be selected to the Indian Test Squad for the Australian tour in 2014.

In the 2014-15 Ranji Trophy season, Rahul played nine matches and finished the season with an average of 93.11.

Rahul made his test debut for India on 26th December 2014 against Australia. He played 43 test matches for team India and scored 2547 runs with a 35.37 batting average. His top score on the test is 199. He smashed seven centuries and 13 half-centuries in the format. Rahul made his ODI debut for India on 11th June 2016 against West Indies. He played in the 2019 Cricket World cup for India. He played 42 ODI for team India and scored 1634 runs with a 46.69 batting average. He hits 5 centuries and 10 half-centuries in the ODIs. His top score in the ODI is 112. Rahul made his T20I debut for India on 18th June 2016 against Zimbabwe. He played the 2021 T20 World Cup for India. He played 56 T20I for team India and scored 1831 runs. His top score in T20I is 110 not out.

In IPL, Rahul played as a wicket-keeper batsman for Royal Challengers Bangalore in 2013. In 2014, he was bought by the Sunrisers Hyderabad. In 2016, he again returned to RCB and this time she attracted the attention of cricket lovers. In 2017, he didn’t play the tournament. In 2018, he returned and was bought by Kings XI Punjab. In 2019, his performance was highly praised as he scored 593 runs with a 53.90 average. In 2020, he became the captain of Kings XI Punjab. He scored the most runs that year and won the Orange Cap. In 2021, he again performed so well and scored 626 runs. In 2022, he was bought by the new franchise Lucknow Super Giants and he became the captain of the team.

KL Rahul Controversy:

  • In July 2016, when the Indian cricket team toured West Indies, during a day off KL Rahul posted a photo with a beer bottle on Twitter. The image went viral and was not liked by some BCCI officials as according to them, it will send a bad example to the cricket fans. Rahul immediately deleted the photo after the BCCIs objection.
