Sunitha Upadrashta is an Indian playback singer and voice actor born on May 10, 1978, in Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh. She comes from a music-loving family as her parents are very fond of music. However, she got indulged in the world of music from the young age of 6. She got trained in music from Pemaraju Surya Rao in Carnatic Vocal and Light music from Kalaga Krishna Mohan. Following this, she started receiving several opportunities to participate and perform in multiple concerts including programs by All India Radio.
At the age of 13, she participated in Tyagaraja Aradhana Utsavalu along with her Guru Pemaraju Surya Rao. Next by the age of 17, she had already started her singing career as a playback singer in films. Music director Sashi Preetham gave her the chance to sing in her debut film, Gulabi which marked her debut song that is “Ee Vela Lo Neevu” which was written by Sirivennela Seetharama Sastry. In 1997, she also sang a single card for the Kannada film, Bhoomi Geetha which was composed by Illayaraja. Apart from that, she also sang Telugu serial title songs such as Ruturagalu and Antarangalu. She received her first Nandi award for the title song of Antarangalu. Following this, Sunitha worked under the supervision of several music directors like Illayaraja, Vidyasagar, MM Keeravani, AR Rahman, SV Krishna Reddy, Vandematharam Srinivas, Mani Sharma, and many others. She has given her voice to more than 3000 songs in a number of South Indian films. Also, she has sung in Telugu, Tamil, and Kannada language films.
Apart from playback singing, Sunitha also stepped into the world of dubbing quite unwillingly, and eventually, her ease at voice modulations made her the most sought dubbing artist for all the lead heroines even. She also achieved a rare feat as a voice-over artist in the Telugu film industry with a record-breaking contribution of lending voice to over 110 actresses in more than 750 films. She also holds a major record of lending her voice to 60 movies in a single year.
In addition to this, she has also made her contribution to devotional singing giving voice to a number of bhajans, kirtans, and songs with expression.
Talking about her personal life, she got married at the age of 19 to Kiran Kumar Goparaju who also works in the media. However, they later got divorced. The couple also has two children, Akash and Shreya.
