An Indian actor, director, screenwriter, and television presenter, Ramesh Aravind was born on September 10, 1964, in Kumbakonam, Tamil Nadu. His career spans over 34 years during which he has worked on more than 140 films in six languages.
He was born into a Tamil Iyengar family. While his father’s name is P.A. Govindachari & Saroja and has four siblings. Speaking about his personal life, he is married to Archana and the couple has a daughter and a son.
Talking about his career, it was during his studying years when he worked as an emcee to award functions basically as the host of an event celebrating the success of the film, Sagara Sangamam. It was during this time when his long-time collaborator Kamal Haasan for the first time. Next, he started with television and hosted a Kannada television show following which he worked on a Kannada-language film titled Mouna Geethe. He was seen playing a supporting role in the film. Before the release of the film, he was approached by director K Balachander who was then looking for an actor for the film, Sundara Swapnagalu. Next, he played a small role in the 1986 film, Punnagai Mannan.
It was Balachander who introduced the actor to several mainstream films. He was then introduced into the Telugu film industry with the film, Rudraveena. However, he made his breakthrough by portraying a student union leader in a romantic drama film, Keladi Kanmani which was released in 1990. The film was a commercial success following which he shifted base to Chennai and started primarily working on Tamil and Kannada language films. At the same time, he was seen in the Tamil film, Duet (1994) followed by Balu Mahendra’s comedy film, Sathi Leelavathi. On the other hand, he also appeared in several consecutive commercially successful Kannada films that became one of the industry’s most bankable actors.
Later, he returned to Kannada language films and at the same time returned to Tamil films to collaborate with his close friend, Kamal Haasan. Apart from acting, Ramesh also ventured into writing and scripted the national award-winning film Homage in 1998 which paved his way in film direction. The film also won him the Best Actor Filmfare Award and the Karnataka State Award. Next, his other film Amrithadhare also won him the Raghvendra Chitravani Award for Best Story. He then started writing stories for the movies he directed.
His first directorial venture was the hit film, Rama Shama Bhama opposite Kamal Haasan. His next film was Sathyavan Savithri. Apart from that, his other directorial ventures are Accident, Venkata in Sankata, and Nammanna Don.
Ramesh has also been a part of television and was seen as a host in shows like Preetyinda Ramesh, Raja Rani Ramesh, Weekend with Ramesh, and Kannada Kotyadhupati.
