Basava Raju Sundaram is an Indian dance choreographer, actor, and director known primarily for working in Tamil, Kannada, and Telugu films. He was born on September 6, 1968, in Mysore, Karnataka to dancer Mugur Sundar. He also has two brothers, celebrity choreographers Prabhu Deva and Nagendra Prasad. His entire family has been engaged in dancing and choreographing in films.
On the career front, he began as an assistant choreographer for his father Mugur Sundar’s projects before he would lead troupes alone. Apart from choreographing for films, he was also seen as a dancer in several films including Mani Ratnam’s Roja and Aasai. He regularly used to appear in cameo roles in songs alongside his brother Prabhu Deva. After working as a lead choreographer for a few Kannada films, Sundaram got his first big break with Mani Ratnam’s Thiruda Thiruda in which he choreographed three songs. Following this, he also went on to become a choreographer for many other Tamil directors including Shankar.
Shankar also offered Sundaram an opportunity to act in his romantic comedy film, Jeans which was released in 1998 where he played a full-length role. Next in 2002, he was seen in a lead role in the sports drama film, I Love You Da which was released in 2002. Following that, he primarily worked as a choreographer for almost three decades now in a huge number of films. He also tried his hands at the direction and his directorial debut with the 2008 Tamil film, Aegan.
