An Indian actor, producer, and politician, Nandamuri Balakrishna was born on June 10, 1960, in Tamil Nadu. His father is a Telugu actor and three-time Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh NT Rama Rao and his wife Basavatarakam.
While he was raised in Madras, later he moved to Hyderabad during his adolescence. He earned a bachelor’s degree in commerce from Nizam College, Hyderabad. He was just 22 when he got married to Vasundhara Devi and the couple has three children.
Speaking about his career, he started acting as a child artist in the 1974 Telugu language film, Tatamma Kala which was directed by his father. Following that, he was seen in many of his father’s films including Daana Veera Soora Karna, Sri Madvirata Parvam, Akbar Salim Anarkali, and many others. At the age of 16, he then was seen in the film, Annadammula Anubandham which was a remake of the Hindi film, Yaadon Ki Baaraat.
Finally, in 1984, he made his debut as an adult with the film, Sahasame Jeevitham and then in the drama film, Mangammagari Manavadu in the same year.
Apart from that, his third film in the year was Kathanayakudu followed by the biographical film, Shrimad Virat Veerabrahmendra Swami Charitra. Over years, he worked in many other films as well. However, it was in the 90s when he started gaining prominence in the industry. In the year 1987, he was seen playing a dual role in the film, Apoorva Sahodarulu followed by another film in the same year which is President Gari Abbai. These films were successful. Some of his other successful films are Inspector Pratap, Bharatamlo Bala Chandrudu, Tiragabadda Telugubidda, and Raktabhishekam.
Next till 1999, Balakrishna acted in a series of films like Aditya 369, Bhairava Dweepan, Brahmarshi Viswamitra, Top Hero, and Muddula Mogul, and many others. During this while, there was a time when he had two releases on the same day Nippu Ravva and Vijayashanti.
Next in 2000, he featured in the EVV Satyanarayana directorial film, Goppinti Alludu followed by his next film, Narasimha Naidu which was released in 2001. It also went on to become the highest-grossing Telugu film of all time, a record which was later broken by Chiranjeevi’s Indra. He also won his first Nandi Award for Best Actor. He then appeared in many films especially action-drama flicks between 2005 till 2009.
In 2010, Balakrishna was seen in Boyapati Srinu’s hit film, Simha opposite Nayantara and Sneha Ullal. It became a big hit and was also the highest-grossing film of the year.
