Jayaram Subramaniam popularly known as Jayaram is an Indian actor who is known for acting in Malayalam, Tamil, and Telugu films. He is also known as a chenda percussionist, mimicry artist, and occasional playback singer. He was born on 10th December 1964 in Perumbavoor, Kerala, India to the late Subramaniyam and late Thankam. He had an elder brother late Venkataram and a sister Manjula. Malayalam writer Malayattoor Ramakrishnan is Jayaram’s maternal uncle. He completed his schooling at Government Boys High School, Perumbavoor. He did his graduation with a bachelor’s degree in Economics from Sree Sankara College, Kalady.
He started his career as a medical representative after his college. Then Jayaram joined the Kalabhavan, a professional mimicry troupe and learned and started performing mimicry in the 1980s. Jayaram made his acting debut in 1988 with the Malayalam film Aparan. In that year, he also acted in five other films. In 1989, he appeared in sixteen films. In 1990 and 1991 he starred in fourteen films each year. He had seven releases in 1992. The films were, Advaitham, Ootty Pattanam, My Dear Muthachan, Ezhara Ponnana, First Bell, Ayalathe Addeham and Aayushkalam. Jayaram made his Tamil debut in 1993 with Gokulam. He also appeared in twelve other films that year. But he became one of the Superstars of the Malayalam film industry through the film Meleparambil Aanveedu. Vadhu Doctoranu, Sudhinam and CID Unnikrishnan B.A., B.Ed. were his three released films in 1994.
Later in 1995, he made his Hindi debut with the film Kusthi. He also appeared in nine films. He had five releases in 1996. In 1997, he had seven releases. In 1998, he starred in eight films. In 1999, he was seen in four films, Pattabhishekam, Friends, Veendum Chila Veettukaryangal and Njangal Santhushtaranu.
Later in 2000, he was seen in five films, Swayamvara Panthal, Nadan Pennum Natupramaniyum, Millennium Stars, Kochu Kochu Santhoshangal, and Daivathinte Makan. He had six released films in 2001. He starred in three films in 2002, Malayali Mamanu Vanakkam, Yathrakarude Sradhakku and Sesham. He appeared in three films in 2003, Ente Veedu Appuvinteyum, Ivar and Manassinakkare. He was seen in three films in 2004, Njan Salperu Ramankutty, Amrutham and Mayilattam. In 2005 and 2006 he starred in four films each year. Anchil Oral Arjunan and Sooryan were his only released films in 2007. He was seen in five films in 2008.
Next in 2009, he had seven releases. He appeared in three films, Four Friends, Happy Husbands and Kadha Thudarunnu in 2010. He had seven releases in 2011. In 2012 and 2013 he starred in four films each year. He was seen in six films in 2014. Sir C. P. and Thinkal Muthal Velli Vare were his two released films in 2015. Aadupuliyattam was his only released film in 2016. In 2017, he starred in three films, Aakashamittayi, Achayans and Satya. Daivame Kaithozham K. Kumar Akanam and Panchavarnathatha were his two released films in 2018. In that year, he made his Telugu debut with Bhaagamathie. He appeared in four films in 2019.

He made his television debut as a contestant in 2012 with Ningalkkum Aakaam Kodeeshwaran. He also participated in Sell Me The Answer in 2018 as a contestant. He also appeared as a guest in several television shows and series, such as Onnum Onnum Moonu, Paadam Namukku Paadam, Let’s Rock N’ Roll etc.
He worked as a dubbing artist in three films, Witness, Kanalkkattu and Kankettu.
