Gopalakrishnan Padmanabhan Pillai popularly known as Dileep is an Indian actor, producer, and businessman who is known for working in the Malayalam film industry. He was born on 27tg October 1967 in Edavanakad, Ernakulam, Kerala, India to Padmanabhan Pillai and Sarojam. He has a brother, Anoop, and a sister, Sabitha. He completed his schooling at Vidyadhiraja Vidya Bhavan Higher Secondary School, Aluva and Union Christian College, Aluva. He completed his graduation in History from Maharaja’s College, Ernakulam. During his college life, he started doing impressionism.

He started his career as an impressionist in stage shows. He associated with Kalabhavan working as a mimicry artist.

Later, he got wide recognition after appearing in the television show Comicola. He also appeared in television shows, Cinemala, Dhe Chef, And Comedy Mamankam. In 1991, he worked as an assistant director in two films, Vishnu Lokam and Ulladakkam. He made his film debut in 1992 in the small role of Ennodu Ishtam Koodamo. In that year, he again worked as an assistant director in two films, Champakulam Thachan and Ennodishtam Koodamo. In 1993, he worked on two films, Ghazal and Bhoomi Geetham as assistant director. In 1994, he appeared in five films. His performance in Manatee Kottaram was praised. He was seen in eight films in 1995. In that year, he worked as an assistant director in Mazhayethum Munpe.

Next, in 1996, he appeared in eleven films. Ee Puzhayum Kadannu and Sallapam were his breakthrough performance. In 1997 and 1998, he starred in nine films each year. In 1999 and 2000, he had five releases each year. Ee Parakkum Thalika was the most successful film of his career, which he appeared in 2001. In that year he also appeared in four other films. Kuberan was another most successful and breakthrough film of his career which he appeared in 2002. His other film Kunjikoonan helped him to earn Kerala State Film Special Jury Award. Dileep gained wide recognition after his highly acclaimed performance in Meesa Madhavan in the same year. In that year he also made his Tamil film debut with Raajjiyam. In that year, he was seen in two other films. In 2003, Dileep established his film production company Grand Production, it’s debut film was C.I.D. Moosa. This film marked his best film to many fans. He had six other releases in that year. In 2004, he was seen in six films. In 2005, his performance in Chanthupottu was praised. He had two other releases, Kochi Rajavu and Pandippada. He had six releases in 2006.

Later, in 2007, he was seen in five films. Calcutta News, Twenty:20, Mulla and Crazy Gopalan were his four released films in 2008. In 2009, he had five releases. He appeared in his 100th film, Kaaryasthan in 2010. In that year, he had five other releases. In 2011, his performance in Vellaripravinte Changathi helped him to earn Kerala state film award for the Best Actor. He had five other releases in that year. In 2012, he had five releases. He had six releases in 2013. He starred in three films in 2014, Ring Master, Avatharam and Villali Veeran. In 2015, he appeared in six films. In 2016, he had three releases, King Liar, Pinneyum and Welcome to Central Jail. Georgettan’s Pooram, Ramaleela and Aana Alaralodalaral were his three released films in 2017. He was seen in Kammara Sambhavam and Savaari in 2018. He has four releases in 2019. He was last seen in the 2021 film Keshu Ee Veedinte Nadhan.

He has two upcoming films, Voice Of Sathyanathan and Parakkum Pappan.

He produced several films in his career, such as Twenty:20, Malarvaadi Arts Club, The Metro etc.
