Tom Jeffrey Hanks is an American actor and filmmaker. He was born on 9th July 1956 in Concord, California, the United States to Janet Marylyn and Amos “Bud” Hanks. His mother is a hospital worker and his father itinerant cook. She has three siblings, Sandra, Jim and Larry. He has three half-siblings. He did his schooling at Skyline High School. Later, he studied theatre at Chabot College, Hayward, California, and transferred to California State University, Sacramento.

Hanks became an intern at the Great Lakes Theater Festival. His internship stretched into a three-year experience that covered most aspects of theatre production, including lighting, set design, and stage management, prompting Hanks to drop out of college. During his internship, Tom played several parts in plays. In 1978, for his performance as Proteus in Shakespeare’s The Two Gentlemen of Verona, he won the Cleveland Critics Circle Award for Best Actor.

Tom made his acting debut in 1980 with He Knows You’re Alone. In that year he also made his television debut with the television series, The Love Boat.
