A British-Canadian actor, Robert Scott Speedman was born on September 1, 1975, in Hammersmith, London to Scottish parents Mary, a primary school teacher, and champion runner, and Roy Speedman, a department store buyer. He also had a sister, Tracey, who died due to cancer in February 2016. Scott moved with his family to Toronto at the age of four. He was a competitive swimmer who attended Earl Haig Secondary School’s now-defunct gifted athlete program. He was also a member of the Canadian Junior National Swim Team and came ninth at the 1992 Olympic trials. 

However, after he suffered a neck injury, Scott had to leave the sport and further tried finding a new focus outside of sports. Shortly after that, he started developing an interest in acting and also went to attend the University of Toronto and York University. Later, after being encouraged by a friend, Scott expressed his wish to audition for the role of Robin in the film, Batman Forever. However, he did not bag the role but received the exposure he needed. 

It was in the year 1995 when Scott made his television debut when he appeared in an episode of the series, Kung Fu: The Legend Continues followed by a recurring role in the series, Nancy Drew. Following this, he featured in a number of small roles on television and then decided to go to New York for studying for a short time at the Neighbourhood Playhouse. However, he soon dropped out and came back to Toronto. Later, he got his major breakthrough after receiving a call from an American casting agent who wanted him to audition for a new series, Felicity. He was seen in the role of college student Ben Covington opposite Keri Russell. He also received much-needed acclaim for his performance. After this, he started receiving several offers. In 200, he was offered the role of Billy Hannah opposite Gwyneth Paltrow in the film, Duets. 

Next, after completing four years with Felicity, he got his first major role in the police drama film, Dark Blue after which he was seen in the independent drama film, My Life Without me opposite Sarah Polley. He also won the Golden Wave Award for his performance. Next in 2003, he starred opposite Kate Beckinsale in the supernatural thriller film, Underworld. His performance made an impression on the audience and he was also honoured with a Saturn Award. Next, he went on to feature opposite James Marsden in the thriller film, The 24th Day and then XXX: State of the Union. 

After receiving success with the first Underworld film, he went on to feature in the sequel of the film, Underworld: Evolution. Scott also featured opposite Liv Tyler in the horror-thriller film, The Strangers followed by the mystery drama film, Adoration. 

Next, he also starred in the independent Western film, The Last Rites of Ransom Pride opposite Lizzy Caplan and Dwight Yoakam. Following this, he starred in the ABC military drama series, Last Resort which premiered in September 2012. Apart from that, he went on to feature in a number of TV series and films. 

Talking about his personal life, he started dating Lindsay Rae Hofmann after which in May 2021, Kofmann announced her pregnancy. The couple welcomed their first child, their daughter in October 2021.
