A Canadian actress by profession, Rachel Anne McAdams was born on November 17, 1978, in London, Ontario, Canada to Sandra and Lance McAdams. She is the eldest of three children and has a young sister and a younger brother. At the age of 4, McAdams started figure skating and also had to turn down an opportunity to move to Toronto for pair skating training.
Later, she competed in skating till the age of 18 and turned it into her hobby. Rachel got her schooling from Myrtle Street Public School and later got enrolled in the Central Elgin Collegiate Institute. Next, she got into York University for a four-year theatre program and graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts honors degree in 2001.
However, she had already developed an interest in performing from the young age of 7 and participated in many summer camps including those of Disney and Shakespeare. During her school days, she was actively associated with stage dramas and used to also participate in cultural activities. After completing her education, while Rachel was still working on stage, she got her first on-screen debut in the MTV pilot Shotgun Love Dolls as Beth Swanson. In the same year, she also made her debut in the Canadian film industry with the comedy film, My Name Tanino.
Following that, she also made her debut in Hollywood with the film, The Hot Chick which was also said to be a huge milestone in her career. However, she got a major break in the year 2004 when she was featured in the comedy film, Mean Girls which was not only a big hit but had also grossed around $129 million worldwide.

After that, she was featured in a number of hit movies including romantic drama The Notebook, Wedding Crashers, Red Eye, The Family Stone, State of Play, The Time Traveler’s Wife, Sherlock Holmes, and Morning Glory, Midnight in Paris, The Vow, and many others. She also received nominations and many awards for her work. Other than films, she also featured on television in the second season of the HBO anthology crime drama series, True Detective.
