Peter Hayden Dinklage is an American actor and producer born on June 11, 1969, in the Jersey Shore region of New Jersey to John Carl Dinklage and Diane Dinklage. He grew up with his parents and an elder brother Jonathan in the historic Brookside section of Mendham Township.
Though, he is the only member of his family with achondroplasia. While being a child, Dinklage and his brother performed in multiple puppet musicals in their neighborhood. However, his brother’s passion for violin was the reason that kept him from acting.
Speaking about his career, he got his first theatrical success in a fifth-grade production of The Velveteen Rabbit where he played the lead role and his performance was also applauded by the audience. However, he then shifted his focus on education and attended Delbarton School where he developed his acting skills. Following this, he attended Bennington College where he studied drama degree. Next, he moved to New York City to build a theatre company. However, before he could pursue a career as a full-time actor, he worked at a data-processing company for six years.
In the initial days, he struggled to find work and ended up with the roles of “elves or leprechauns” because of his condition. He made his credited film debut with the comedy-drama, Living in Oblivion followed which in the next year, he featured in the crime drama film, Bullet.
After that, he was cast in the comedy film, 13 Moons in 2002. However, he got his breakthrough with the role of Finbar McBride in the 2003 film, The Station Agent. The film was successful and also gained him several nominations and awards. Next in the same year, he appeared in the film, Tiptoes. Following this, he appeared in a series of films like Richard III, Elf, The Baxter, Lassie, Find Me Guilty, Penelope, The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian, etc.
However, it was in the year 2011 when he got major prominence after he was cast in the hit HBO fantasy series, Game of Thrones. He was seen in the role of Tyrion Lannister. His performance gained him critical praise and also got him several awards including the Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series in 2011, 2015, 2018, and 2018.
Following that, he worked in a long line of films and TV series which got him to great heights in his career. Talking about his personal life, Dinklage got married to Erica Schmidt in 2005 and has two children. He describes himself as a lapsed Catholic and has been a vegetarian since the age of 16.
