Narendra Modi is the 14th and current Prime Minister of India, since May 2014. He is a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), a Hindu nationalist volunteer organization. He served as chief minister for four consecutive terms, from 2001 to 2014.
In September 2013, Modi was named as the prime ministerial candidate for the BJP in the 2014 general election. The BJP emerged as the largest party in the election, and Modi was sworn in as the Prime Minister of India on May 26, 2014.
As Prime Minister, Modi has implemented a number of economic and social policies, including the Make in India campaign to encourage foreign investment, the Jan Dhan Yojana to provide financial services to the poor, the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan to clean up public spaces, and the Digital India campaign to promote the use of technology in the public sector.
