Joseph Anthony Mantegna is an American actor who is known for acting in American film and television series. He was born on 13th November 1947 in Chicago, Illinois to the late Joseph Henry Mantegna and the late Mary Ann. His father was an insurance salesman and his mother was a shipping clerk. Jor did his schooling at J. Sterling Morton High School East in Cicero, Illinois. He completed his graduation from the Goodman School of Drama at the Art Institute of Chicago.

When he was young, he played bass in bands, The Apocryphals, and The Missing Links. Joe began his acting career with theatre in the 1969 show Hair. He won a Tony Award for Best Featured Actor in a Play. He won Joseph Jefferson Award for his performance in the stage show Glengarry Glen Ross in 1984. He also appeared in two other stage shows, Working (1978) and Speed-the-Plow (1988). Joe entered the film industry as a photographer. He made his film debut in 1977 with Medusa Challenger. In 1978, he was seen in two films, Towing and A Steady Rain. In 1979, he made his television debut with the television film Elvis. He also appeared in another television film in the year, Bleacher Bums. To Be Announced was his only released film of the year. In 1980, he was seen in the television series, Soap. He had three released television series in 1981, It’s a Living, Open All Night and Bodom Buddies.

Later, in 1982, he starred three other television series,  The Greatest American Hero, Simon & Simon and Archie Bunker’s Place. Second Thoughts was his only released film in 1983. In 1984, he appeared in one television film, The Outlaws and one television series, Comedy Zone. In 1985, he was seen in the television film, Big Shots in America. Compromising Positions was his only released film of the year. He was seen in three films in 1986, The Money Pit, Off Beat and Three Amigos. In 1987, he appeared in the television series, The Twilight Zone. In the same year, he starred in four films, House of Games, Weeds, Critical Condition and Suspect. An honorary street sign—Joe Mantegna Boulevard—was established on the northeast corner of Austin Boulevard and 25th Street, the location of his high school in Cicero, Illinois on 6th June 2011. Where Joe lived during his early acting days,  a section of Armitage Avenue was dedicated to Joe Mantegna Way by the city of Chicago on 3rd May 2017.

Mantegna received the 2,438th star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in California on 29th April 2011. In 2014, Mantegna received a star on the Italian Walk of Fame in Toronto. On April 4, 2015, Mantegna received a Lifetime Achievement Award for Film and Television from The Riverside International Film Festival. On May 22, 2015, Mantegna received the Saint Pio Award from the Saint Pio Foundation, in recognition of his outstanding contribution being an extraordinary individual in “providing relief from suffering to those in need”.

On 3rd October 1975, Joe married Arlene Vrhel. Together, they have two daughters: Mia who was born in 1987 and Gia, who was born in 1990.
