Denzel Hayes Washington Jr is an American actor, director, and producer who is known for working in the American films and television industry. He was born on 28th December 1954 in Mount Vernon, New York, United States to Denzel Hayes Washington Sr. and Lennis “Lynne”. His father was an ordained Pentecostal minister, who was also an employee of the New York City Water Department and worked at a local S. Klein department store and his mother was a beauty parlour owner and operator. Denzel did his schooling at Pennington-Grimes Elementary School in Mount Vernon, Oakland Military Academy in New Windsor, New York, and Mainland High School in Florida. He completed his BA in Drama and Journalism from Fordham University. Later, he studied acting at the Lincoln Center campus. There he appeared in several stage shows. Then he did his graduation from American Conservatory Theater in San Francisco, California,

He joined summer stock theatre in 1976 and performed in Wings of the Morning.

In 1977, Denzel made his television debut with the television film, The Wilma Rudolph Story.

In 1979, he was seen in the theatre show Coriolanus and the television film, Flesh & Blood.

In 1981, Denzel made his film debut with Carbon Copy. When the Chickens Came Home to Roost and A Soldier’s Play was his two theatre show of the year.

In 1982, he appeared in the television series, St. Elsewhere. It was a breakthrough performance for Denzel.

In 1984, Denzel starred in the television film, License to Kill. A Soldier’s Story was his second film, which was released in the same year.
