Angelina Jolie is an American actress, filmmaker, and humanitarian who is known for acting in Hollywood films and television series. She was born on 4th June 1975 in Los Angeles, California, the United States to actors Jon Voight and Marcheline Bertrand. She has a brother, James Haven. Singer-songwriter Chip Taylor and geologist and volcanologist Barry Voight are her uncles. Actors Jacqueline Bisset and Maximilian Schell were her grandparents. Angelina did her schooling at Beverly Hills High School and Moreno High School. Later, she attended Lee Strasberg Theatre Institute. She also studied at New York University to study directing and screenwriting.

During her childhood, Angelina appeared in USC School of Cinema-Television’s five student films and several music videos.

In 1982, Angelina made her film debut as a child artist in Lookin’ to Get Out.

In 1993, she appeared in a direct-to-video Cyborg 2. Later that year, she was seen in two short films, Angela & Viril and Alice & Viril.

She made her feature film debut with Hackers in 1995.

In 1996, she starred in four films, Without Evidence, Love Is All There Is, Foxfire and Mojave Moon.

In 1997, she made her television debut with the television film, George Wallace and True Women. For her performance in George Wallace, Angelina won a Golden Globe Award and a nomination for an Emmy Award. Playing God was his only released film of the year.

1998 was another successful year for Angelina. She got wide recognition and breakthrough for her performance in the television series, Gia. Jolie won another Golden Globe Award and her first Screen Actors Guild Award and was nominated for an Emmy Award for the series. Hell’s Kitchen and Playing by Heart were his two released films of the year. For Playing by Heart, she won the Breakthrough Performance Award from the National Board of Review.

In 1999, she starred in three films, The Bone Collector, Pushing Tin and Girl, Interrupted. For Girl, Interrupted, she won her third Golden Globe Award, her second Screen Actors Guild Award, and an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress.

Gone in 60 Seconds was her only released film in 2000.

From 2001 to 2006, Angelina acted in several films, such as Lara Croft: Tomb Raider (2001), Life or Something Like It (2002), Lara Croft: Tomb Raider – The Cradle of Life (2003), Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow (2004), Mr. & Mrs Smith (2005), The Good Shepherd (2006) etc. During this period, she worked as an executive producer for the documentary film, Trudell (2005).

In 2007, she appeared in two films, A Mighty Heart and Beowulf. For her performance in A Mighty Heart, she earned nominations for a Golden Globe Award and a Screen Actors Guild Award. Later, that year she made her directorial debut with the documentary film, A Place in Time.

In 2008, Angelina gave her voice in the film Kung Fu Panda. She also acted in two films, Wanted and Changeling. Her performance was praised in Changeling, and she earned nominations for a Golden Globe Award, a Screen Actors Guild Award, a BAFTA Award, and an Academy Award for Best Actress.

The Tourist and Salt was her only released film in 2010. For her acting in The Tourist, she received a Golden Globe Award nomination. Later that year, she also gave her voice to the television series, Kung Fu Panda Holiday.

In 2011, she made her directorial debut in a feature film, In the Land of Blood and Honey. She also produced and wrote the screenplay of the film. The film was nominated for a Golden Globe Award for Best Foreign Language Film, and Jolie was named an honorary citizen of Sarajevo for raising awareness of the war. In the same year, she gave her voice in two films, Kung Fu Panda: Secrets of the Masters and Kung Fu Panda 2.

In 2014, she appeared in the film, Maleficent. Later that year, she worked as an executive producer in two films, Difret and Maleficent. In the same year, she produced and directed the film, Unbroken.

By the Sea was her only released film in 2015. She also directed, produced and wrote the film.

In 2016, she gave her voice in the film, Kung Fu Panda 3.

Without Blood is her upcoming film, which will be directed, produced and written by her. As a producer, she has an upcoming film, Maleficent: Mother of all parties. Next, she will give her voice in another upcoming film, Kung Fu Panda 4.

Angelina is known for her several humanitarian works including conservation, education, and women’s rights, and is most noted for her advocacy on behalf of refugees as a Special Envoy for the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR). For her works, she also received a Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award and also an honorary Dame Commander of the Order of St Michael and St George (DCMG).

In 2003, Angelina wrote a book, Notes from My Travels: Visits with Refugees in Africa, Cambodia, Pakistan and Ecuador.

In March 1996, Angelina married actor Jonny, Lee Miller. They divorced in February 1999. 

On 5th May 2000, Jolie married actor Billy Bob Thornton. Angelina and Billy adopted a child in March 2002, Maddox Chivan Jolie-Pitt. They separated in June 2002.

In 2005, Angelina adopted her second child, Zahara Marley Jolie-Pitt.

On 27th May 2006, Jolie gave born her first child with Brad Pitt, Shiloh Nouvel Jolie-Pitt. Later in 2007, they adopted another child, Pax Thien Jolie-Pitt.
