Uhm Hong-sik popularly known as Yoo Ah-in is a South Korean actor, creative director, and gallerist who is known for acting in South Korean films and television shows. He was born on 6th October 1986 in Daegu, South Korea. He has two siblings. He did his schooling at Gyeongbuk Arts High School, majoring in fine arts and was later admitted to Seoul Arts High School, but dropped out in the middle. He completed a GED for high school certification from Dankuk University and Konkuk University.

He made his acting debut with the television series, Honest Living in 2003.

In 2004, he appeared in two television series, Sharp and April Kiss. His performance in Sharp helps him to gain popularity.

In 2005, he acted in the film Shi-eun & Soo-ha.

In 2006, he made his film debut with Boys of Tomorrow. For his performance in the film, he earned the Best New Actor award at the Busan Film Critics Awards.

In 2007, he starred in his second film, Skeletons in the Closet. For his performance, he was nominated for the Blue Dragon Film Awards.

In 2008, he acted in the television series Strongest Chil Woo and the film Antique. Yoo won the Best New Actor award at the Director’s Cut Awards.

He Who Can’t Marry was his only released television series in 2009. In the same year, he acted in the film, Sky and Ocean.  

In 2010, Yoo starred in the film, Sungkyunkwan Scandal.

Punch was his only released film in 2011. For Punch, Yoo was nominated at the Buil Film Awards. He also appeared in the television reality show, Yoo Ah-in’s Launch My Life.

In 2012, he was seen in the television series, Fashion King.

Jang Ok-jung, Living by Love was his only released television series in 2013. He also appeared in the film Tough as Iron in the same year.

In 2014, he was seen in two films, The Satellite Girl and Milk Cow and Thread of Lies. In the same year, he acted in two television series, Discovery of Love and Secret Affair. He appeared in his first documentary, Wan-deuk Who Wants to Fly in the same year.

Six Flying Dragons were his only released television series in 2015. In that year, he acted in two films, The Throne and Veteran.

In 2016, he made his debut as a producer with the short film, CCRT Aerospace: Episode 1 Fragile: The Other Space. He also acted in the film. Like for Likes was his only released feature film of the year. He was seen television series, Descendants of the Sun in the same year.

In 2017, he started in television series, Chicago Typewriter. He worked as a narrator in his second documentary, June Story.

In 2018, he produced and acted in his second short film, The Interview. In the same year, he acted in two feature films, Burning and Default. He also appeared in the documentary Eyewitnesses of Syria that year.

In 2019, he hosted and worked as a co-writer and co-producer in the television show Do-ol Ah-in Going All Directions. He acted in a Chinese short film, Sender Unknown in the same year.

Voice of Silence and #Alive were his two released films in 2020.

Hellbound was his only released television series in 2021.

Seoul Vibe was his only released film in 2022.

He has two upcoming films, Hi.5 and The Match. He has one upcoming television series, Goodbye Earth.

He also appeared in several commercials, five music videos and one video game.

In 2014, Yoo established Studio Concrete, planning exhibitions and advertisements, graphic design, product design and art collaborations. In the same year, he launched a local clothing line named Newkids Nohant to create Hangul-themed T-shirt designs.

Later from 2015 to 2017, Yoo had been an investor and business partner of TMI (Too Much Information), a Korean healthy fried food with a mushroom-oriented restaurant. 

From 2014 to 2016, he had been the chief editor of Tom Greyhound’s fashion magazine Tom Paper and contributed several columns for magazines such as InStyle Korea, and Movieweek.

He also does charity and social work.

In 2016, he ranked second on the Forbes Korea Power Celebrity list.

Apart from films, Yoo does social and artistic activism. He is also known for his politically and socially charged views on his social media account.
