Chou Tzu-yu was born on June 14, 1999, in Tainan, Taiwan. She is the daughter of Huang Yen-ling and Chou Yi-cheng, who are self-made entrepreneurs. Tzu-yu was a very talented and hard-working girl who always wanted to make her career in the arts and make her family proud. In 2012, Tzu-yu was discovered by talent scouts at the MUSE Performing Arts Workshop in Tainan and offered to train in singing. She moved to South Korea in November of that year to start her training in various aspects of the performing arts, such as dancing, acting, and singing.
In 2016, Tzuyu passed an exam at Tainan Municipal Fusing Junior High School to certify her middle school education and attended high school at Hanlim Multi Art School in South Korea, where she graduated in February 2019. At the age of 16, she made her TV debut on the South Korean reality show “Sixteen.” Her skills were appreciated on the show, and she was immediately included in the newly formed all-girl K-pop group ‘TWICE.’

Chou knew what she wanted in life. With all the knowledge she gained from her training, she entered the South Korean reality show called “Sixteen” in the year 2015. The band released their single song “Cheer Up,” which became the best single of the year 2016. Moreover, the band released their two albums, “Twicetagram” and “BDZ.” The songs were massive hits not only in Korea but in Japan as well. In October, “Twice” released their debut studio album, “Twicetagram.” The album topped the “Billboard World Albums” chart. Later on, in February 2018, the group released their second Japanese single, “Candy Pop,” which was yet another success.
