Koo Hye-Sun is a famous South Korean actress, model, director, producer, singer, writer, screenwriter and artist. She is one of the best-known artists from South Korea. In the beginning, Koo first gained popularity for her lead role in Hearts of Nineteen. Later, she gained widespread recognition in the television dramas Pure in Heart (2006), The King and I (2007), Boys Over Flowers (2009), Take Care of Us (2012), Angel Eyes (2014), and Blood (2015). Koo Hye-Sun has also written scripts for two of her directorial ventures and has also worked as an associate at many national and international film festivals and has directed trailers for such events. Her novel, titled “Tango,” which includes the drawings made by her, was a best seller in 2009, with a sales volume of 30,000. Koo Hye-Sun also works for charity and the benefit of underprivileged children. Koo Hye-Sun has also won several awards, which include KBS Drama Awards, SBS Drama Awards, the 6th Yahoo! Taiwan Asia Buzz Awards, Ministry of Health and Welfare, Ministry of Gender Equality and Family, and many more. 

Koo Hye-Sun was born on November 9, 1984, in Incheon, South Korea. She is the second child of her parents. Ku Hye-sun’s family consists of her mother, father, and one older sister, Ku Hye-Jung. Koo always dreamed of being a successful singer. To achieve this, she enrolled herself at the Sungkyunkwan University—Seoul Institute of Arts, and formed a vocal band with her college friends. Koo, with her passion for singing, had also started to take modeling lessons and did many internet campaigns as well. Koo enrolled herself as a trainee under SM Entertainment and later moved to DSP Media to become part of a three-member girl group named “Ria”. She also became famous by the name “ulzzang”, which means “good looking.” Her singing career failed, so she signed a contract with YG Entertainment, event management and modeling agency, from where she started her acting career.

Koo Hye-Sun first began her career as a singer, but could not pursue it. After that, she started her modeling career, where she did a commercial for Sambo computers and also appeared in a few minor roles in dramas. Her performance was first noticed in the MBC sitcom “Nonstop 5,” and the 2006 television drama “Pure in Heart” catapulted her to fame.Hye-seon’s major breakthrough came in early 2009 with her performance as Jan-di Keum in KBS2’s hit series “Boys Over Flowers” opposite Lee Min-ho, which gained her pan-Asia popularity. In 2009, Koo published her first illustrated novel, Tango (), centered around a 20-something young girl who goes through two separate relationships to finally mature into a woman. The book was a bestseller, selling 30,000 copies within a week.

As of March 2016, Ku confirmed that she had been secretly dating her Blood co-star Ahn Jae-hyun since April 2015. Later on In April 2016, they announced their plans to marry on May 21. The couple registered their marriage on May 20 and held a small, private ceremony the following day. HB Entertainment announced in August 2019 that Ku and Ahn had separated and agreed to divorce proceedings. In July 2020, Ku and Ahn officially divorced after an agreement was settled by the Seoul Family Court.

  • Ku made her official debut as a director with her short film, The Madonna. The film is based on sensitive issues like assisted suicide. The film was featured in several film events, including the Asiana International Short Film Festival and the Pusan Asian Short Film Festival, where it won the “Audience Award” category.
