Ajay Singh Deol popularly known as Sunny Deol is an Indian actor, film director, producer, politician and current Member of Parliament from Gurdaspur (Lok Sabha constituency) of Punjab, India known for acting in Bollywood films. He was born on 19th October 1956 in Sahnewal, East Punjab, India to Dharmendra and Parkash Kaur. His father is a famous Bollywood actor. He has a younger brother actor Bobby Deol and two sisters Vijayta and Ajeeta. His stepmother is Bollywood’s famous actress Hema Malini. He has two paternal half-sisters, actress Esha Deol and Ahana Deol. Actor Abhay Deol is his cousin.

Sunny made his acting debut in the 1983 film Betaab. His performance was praised and he was nominated for best actor at Filmfare Awards. In 1984, Sunny appeared in three films, Manzil Manzil, Sohni Mahiwal and Sunny. In 1985, he had two releases, Arjun and Zabardast. His performance in Arjun was praised and helped him to earn the status as an action hero. He gained popularity. In 1986, Sunny starred in three films, Saveray Wali Gaadi, Sultanat, and Samundar. Dacait was his only released film in 1987. He was seen in four films in 1988, Paap Ki Duniya, Ram-Avtar, Yateem and Inteqam. He has seven releases in 1989. 1990 was a successful year for Sunny. He was seen in four films, Majboor, Krodh, Ghayal and Badnam. His performance in Ghayal was highly acclaimed and he won his first National Film Award – Special Jury Award along with Filmfare Award for Best Actor.

Later, in 1991, he had four releases, Vishnu-Devaa, Narsimha, Shankara and Yodha. Vishwatma was his only released film in 1992. 1993, was another successful year for Sunny Deol. He appeared in seven films, Lootere, Kshatriya, Damini, Izzat Ki Roti, Veerta, Darr and Gunaah. His acting in Damini received several positive reviews and was critically acclaimed. He won his second National Film Award for Best Supporting Actor and Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actor. For his performance in Darr, he was nominated for Filmfare Award for Best Actor in the same year. Insaniyat and Imtihaan were his two released films in 1994. He was seen in two films in 1995, Dushmani: A Violent Love Story and Angrakshak. In 1996, he starred in four films, Ghatak: Lethal, Himmat, Jeet and Ajay. For his performance in Ghatak: Lethal, he was nominated for Filmfare Award for Best Actor. In 1997, he had four releases, Aur Pyaar Ho Gaya, Qahar, Border, and Ziddi. His acting in Border was highly acclaimed and praised by critics. He earned two nominations for Filmfare Award for Best Actor and Zee Cine Awards for Best Actor – Male for his acting. In 1998, he was seen in three films, Iski Topi Uske Sarr, Salaakhen and Zor. In 1999, Sunny made his directorial debut with the film Dillagi. He also acted in the film. In that year, he was also seen in two films, Pyaar Koi Khel Nahin and Arjun Pandit. Champion was his only released film in 2000.

Next, in 2001, Sunny appeared in five films, Farz, Gadar: Ek Prem Katha, Yeh Raaste Hain Pyaar Ke, Indian and Kasam. Gadar became the highest-grossing film of the year. His performance was praised and he won several awards including with Zee Cine Special Award for Outstanding Performance – Male and Star Screen Award for Best Actor. He was also nominated for Filmfare Award for Best Actor, IIFA Best Actor Award and Zee Cine Award for Best Actor- Male for his performance. In 2002 and 2003, he had four releases each year. Lakeer – Forbidden Lines and Rok Sako To Rok Lo were his two released films in 2004. Jo Bole So Nihaal was his only released film in 2005. He had two releases in 2006, Teesri Aankh: The Hidden Camera and Naksha. In 2007, Sunny appeared in four films, Fool & Final, Apne, Big Brother and Kaafila. In 2008, Sunny made his Bengali film debut in a special appearance with Tolly Lights. Heroes were his other Hindi release of the year. In 2009, he was seen on Fox. In 2010, he had three releases. Yamla Pagla Deewana was his only released film in 2011. His acting was praised and he was nominated for the Best Actor Award in Bhaskar Bollywood Awards and Jodi number 1 in Bhaskar Bollywood Awards. In 2013, for the first time, Sunny gave his voice to any film in the character of Bheem for the film Mahabharat. He also appeared in two films, Yamla Pagla Deewana 2 and Singh Saab the Great. Dishkiyaoon was his only released film in 2014. 

In the following year, he acted in several films, such as I Love New Year ( 2015), Ghayal Once Again (2016), Poster Boys (2017), Yamla Pagla Deewana: Phir Se (2018), Pal Pal Dil Ke Paas (2019) etc.

On 23rd April 2019, Sunny joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). With BJP, He won the 2019 Lok Sabha Elections from the Gurdaspur constituency against his rival Sunil Jakhar of the Indian National Congress with a margin of 82,459 votes.

Sunny Deol married Pooja Deol in 1984. Together they have two sons, Karan and Rajveer.
