Riya Dev Varma popularly known as Riya Sen is an Indian actress and model who is known for acting in Hindi, Bengali, English, Telugu and Tamil films. She was born on 24th January 1981 in Kolkata, West Bengal, India to Bharat Dev Varma and Moon Moon Sen. Famous Bengali actress Suchitra Sen is her grandmother. She has a sister, Raima Sen. Her father is from the royal family of Tripura and her mother is a veteran actress.
Riya did her schooling at Loreto House, Kolkata. She majored in philosophy at Rani Birla Girls’ College. Later, she completed a degree from the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT), Mumbai in fashion design and information technology. After that, she did an acting course and simultaneously did voice and dubbing classes at Pinewood Actors Studio, London. She also studied at the TV1 acting studio in Times Square, New York.
Riya has also done a fashion and image styling course in Paris at the Institute Marangoni. From Blue Elephant Culinary School, Thailand Riya did a cooking course and from the University of Arts in London, she did a ‘branding’ course. She did her 200 hours Teacher training course in Rishikesh for hatha vinyasa, Yin yoga teacher training course in Dharamsala at the Trimurti school and Aerial yoga teacher training course from Ulu yoga in Bali.

When Riya was five years old, she made her acting debut with her mother in an uncredited role as a child artist.
In 1991, she made her Hindi film debut as a child artist with, Vishkanya.
In 1994, she appeared as a child artist in another Bengali film, Gajamukta.
