Rani Mukerji is an Indian actress who is known for working in Hindi films. She was born on 21st March 1978 in Mumbai to Ram and Krishna Mukerji. Her father was a former film director and one of the founders of Filmalaya Studios. Her mother was a former playback singer. She has an elder brother, Raja Mukerji. Famous Bengali actress Debashree Roy is her maternal aunt. Actress Kajol is her paternal cousin. Scriptwriter and film director Ayan Mukerji is also her paternal cousin. She did her schooling at Maneckji Cooper High School, Juhu. She completed her graduation in Home Science from SNDT Women’s University. She learned the Odishi dance in her childhood. She learned acting from Roshan Taneja’s acting institute. She didn’t want to pursue her career in acting in her childhood.   

Rani made her film debut in 1996. She had two releases that year on the same day. She made her Banegali film debut with Biyer Phool and Hindi debut with Raja Ki Aayegi Baraat. She earned positive reviews for her performance in both films.

In 1998, Rani aeared in three films, Ghulam, KuchKuch Hota Hai and Mehndi. For her performance in Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, Rani received several positive reviews and was critically acclaimed. Rani won eight Filmfare Awards and many more.

In 1999, Rani appeared in two films, Hello Brother and a special appearance in the film Mann.

In 2000, Rani made her Tamil debut with Hey Ram. It was a bilingual film. She also starred in another five films, Badal, Hadh Kar Di Apne, Bichhoo, Har Dil Jo Pyar Karega, Kahin yaar Na Ho Jaaye.

2003 was the most successful year for Rani’s career. She appeared in five films, Chalte Chalte, Chori Chori, Calcutta Mail, LOC: Kargil, and a special appearance in Kal Ho Naa Ho. For Chalte Chalte, Rani won several awards and nominations.

Next year, she appeared in three films including Yuva, Hum Tum, and Veer-Zara. Rani’s role is praised and critically acclaimed in all of her three films. She won several awards and nominations for her roles including Filmfare Awards, and IIFA Awards.

In 2005, Rani starred in National Award-winning film Black. Another successful film for Rani. She raised for her role and won several awards and nominations for her role. Rani became the only actress to win both the Best Actress and Best Actress  Critics at the Filmfare Awards ceremony.
