Ranganathan Madhavan is an Indian actor, writer, director and producer who is known for acting in Tamil and Hindi films. He was born on 1st June 1970 in Jamshedpur, Bihar, India.

Madhavan started his acting career with the TV show Yule Love Stories in 1993. In that year, he also appeared in another TV show Banegi Apni Baat.

In 1995, he appeared in four TV shows, A Mouthful Sky, Aarohan, Badalte Rishytey and Suhana Safar.

In 1996, Madhavan made his film debut with an uncredited role in the Hindi film Is Raat Ki Subah Nahin. In that year, he appeared in several other TV shows, such as Yeh Kahan Aa Gaye Hum, Hum Dono, and Aahat.

In 1997, Madhavan made his English film debut with Inferno. In that year, he was seen in six TV shows, Raj Kahani, Neeyat, Jeene Bhi Do Yaaro, Ghar Jamai, Sea Hawks and Kabhie Kabhie. He hosted a TV reality show Tol Mol Ke Bol.

In 1998, Madhavan made his Kannada debut with the film Shanti Shanti Shanti. In that year, he appeared on the TV show Saaya.

In 2000, he made his Tamil debut with the film Alaipayuthey. The film was a breakthrough for Madhavan. His acting was praised and critically acclaimed. For his performance, he won Filmfare Awards for Best Male Debut. He also appeared in a Tamil film that year, Ennavale. He was seen in one television show, Rishtey in the same year.

In 2001, he was seen in four films, Minnale, Dumm Dumm Dumm, Paarthale Paravasam and Rehna Hai Terre Dil Mein. Without Paarthale Paravasam, his three other films helped him to earn several positive reviews and his every performance was critically acclaimed.

In 2002, he starred in four films, Kannathil Muthamittal, Run, Dil Vil Pyar Vyar and Anbe Sivam. Apart from Dil Vil Pyar Vyar, Madhavan was highly acclaimed for his performance in three other films. He gained so much popularity. Madhavan’s performance was described as a “milestone in his career” by The Hindu. He won Tamil Nadu State Film Award for Best Actor for his films, Run, Kannathil Muthamittal and Anbe Sivam. He also won the ITFA Best Supporting actor Award for Anbe SIvam in 2003.

In 2003, he acted in four other films, Nala Damayanthi, Lesa Lesa, Priyamaana Thozhi and Jay Jay. His films received mixed reviews but his performance in each film was praised.

Aethirree, Aastha Ezhuthu, Nothing But Life, and Made In USA were his four other films, which received in 2004. His performance was praised and he won the 2004 Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actor – Tamil for Aaytha Ezhuthu.

In 2008, he had four releases, Halla Bol, Vaazhthugal, Mumbai Meri Jaan and Tipu Kanan Tipu Kiri. His performance in Mumbai Meri Jaan was highly acclaimed. In 2008, he appeared in another documentary, Herova? Zerova? He hosted the Filmfare Awards South.

Yavarum Nalam, 13B, Guru En Aalu, Sikandar and 3 Idiots were five films in 2009. He received several positive reviews and nominations for his all performance. In that year, he also appeared in the television series, CID.

He also produced the film Saala Khadoos.

In 2017, he starred in two films, Vikram Vedha and Magalir Mattum. His performance in Vikram Vedha was critically acclaimed and praised by critics.
