Preity G Zinta is an Indian actress and entrepreneur who is known for her acting in Bollywood films. She was born on 31st January 1975 in Shimla district, Himachal Pradesh, India to Durganand Zinta and Nilprabha. Her father was an Indian Army officer. She has two brothers, Deepankar and Manish. She completed her schooling at the Convent of Jesus and Mary boarding school, in Shimla. Later, she completed her English honours degree from St. Bede’s College, Shimla. After that, she started a graduate programme in psychology and earned a postgraduate degree in criminal psychology.

Then Preity started modelling and appeared in many television commercials.

In 1998, Preity made her acting debut with the Bollywood film, Dil Se.. Her small appearance was praised and she won Filmfare Award for Best Female Debut and a nomination for Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actress. In the same year, she made her Telugu debut with Premante Idera. Her performance was praised again and she earned a nomination for Filmfare Award for Best Actress – Telugu. She was also seen in another Hindi film, Soldier later that year.

In 1999, she acted in one Telugu film, Raja Kumarudu and two Hindi films, Sangharsh and Dillagi.

In 2000, she was seen in three Hindi films, Har Dil Jo Pyar Karega, Kya Kehna and Mission Kashmir. Her performance in Kya Kehna was highly appreciated and she earned another nomination for Filmfare Award for Best Actress.

In 2001, she starred in four films, Yeh Raaste Hain Pyaar Ke, Chori Chori Chupke Chupke, Farz and Dil Chahta Hai. Her performance in Chori Chori Chupke Chupke helped her to earn a nomination for Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actress.

Dil Hai Tumhaara was her only released film of 2002.

In 2003, Preity appeared in four films. It was the most successful year for Prity. The films were, The Hero: Love Story of a Spy, Koi… Mil Gaya, Kal Ho Naa Ho and Armaan. Her performance in Armaan, Kal Ho Naa Ho and Koi… Mil Gaya helped her to earn two nominations for Filmfare Award for Best Performance in a Negative Role, and Filmfare Award for Best Actress and won three awards, the Filmfare Award for Best Actress, the IIFA Award for Best Actress and the Stardust Award for Actor of the Year – Female.

Dil Ne Jise Apna Kahaa, Lakshya and Veer-Zaara were her three released films of 2004. Her performance in Lakshya and Veer-Zaara was highly acclaimed and she earned a nomination for Filmfare Award for Best Actress.

In 2005, she acted in two films, Khullam Khulla Pyaar Karen and Salaam Namaste. Her performance in Salaam Namaste helps her to earn her fifth Filmfare Award for Best Actress nomination.

In 2006, she made two special appearances in two films, Krrish and Alag. Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna and Jaan-E-Mann were her two released Hindi films of the year. Her performance in Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna helped her to earn a nomination for Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actress.

In 2007, she acted in a Hindi film, Jhoom Barabar Jhoom, in an English film, The Last Lear, and a special appearance in the Hindi film, Om Shanti Om.

In 2008, she appeared in the Canadian drama Heaven on Earth. For her acting, she was awarded the Silver Hugo Award for Best Actress and nominated for the Genie Award for Best Actress.
