Nawajuddin Siddiqui is an Indian actor who is known for acting in Hindi films. He was born on 10th July 1967 in Budhana, Uttar Pradesh, India. He has seven siblings. He did his graduation with a B.Sc. in chemistry from Gurukul Kangri Vishwavidyalaya, Haridwar. Then he studied at the National School of Drama (NSD), New Delhi.

He started his career as a chemist in Vadodara. After completing his studies at NSD, he acted in over ten plays with a group of friends.

In 1999, Nawaz made his film debut with the Hindi film Sarfarosh. In the same year, he was seen in the film, Shool. 

Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar and Jungle were his two released films in 2000.

In 2001, he made his television debut with CID.

In 2003, he appeared in one short film, The Bypass and two feature films, Mudda – The Issue and Munna Bhai M.B.B.S.

Family was his only released film in 2006.

In 2007, he acted in four films, Manorama Six Feet Under, Ek Chalis Ki Last Local, Aaja Nachle and Black Friday. His acting in Black Friday was praised and he was nominated for Golden Leopard.

Black & White was his only released film in 2008.

In 2009, he starred in three films, Dev.D, New York and Firaaq.

Peepli Live was his only released film in 2010. He got wide recognition and popularity with his performance.

Dekh Indian Circus was his only released film in 2011.

He starred in eight films in 2012. His films are, Kahaani, Patang, Paan Singh Tomar, Gangs of Wasseypur – Part 1, Chittagong, Gangs of Wasseypur – Part 2, Talaash: The Answer Lies Within and Miss Lovely. Each of his performances was highly acclaimed and praised. He won several awards that year and wide recognition. He won Thumbsup Trophy for his performance in Patang. He won Lions Favorite Actor for his performance in Gangs of Wasseypur – Part 1, and Gangs of Wasseypur – Part 2. He also won Asian Film Award for Best Supporting Actor for his performance in Talaash: The Answer Lies Within.

He appeared in seven films in 2013. The films are, Aatma – Feel It Around You, Bombay Talkies, Shorts, Liar’s Dice, Monsoon Shootout, Anwar Ka Ajab Kissa and The Lunchbox. The Lunchbox was his most appreciated film of the year. For his acting, he won Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actor and Audience Award at the Ghent International Film Festival.

Kick was his only released film in 2014.

He had four releases in 2015, Manjhi – The Mountain Man, Badlapur, Lateef and Bajrangi Bhaijaan. Again each of his performances was praised by critics.

He starred in four films, Raman Raghav 2.0, Freaky Ali, Lion and Te3n in 2016. Nawaz won Best Performance by an Actor at the Asia Pacific Screen Awards and the Official Jury Prize (Best Actor) at the FANCINE Festival de Cine Fantastico de la Universidad de Malaga.

In 2017, he appeared in two short films and five feature films. Haraamkhor, Raees and Mom were his most notable films of the year.

Manto, Genius and Mukkabaaz were his three released films in 2018. Nawaz won Best Performance by an Actor at the Asia Pacific Screen Awards and the GQ Men of the Year award for his performance in Manto. His acting was highly acclaimed. In the same year, he appeared in the American television series, McMafia. He also made his digital debut that year with the web series, Sacred Games.

In 2019, Nawaz made his Tamil debut with, Petta. He was seen in five Hindi films in the same year. The films are Housefull 4, Photograph, Thackeray, Roam Rome Mein and Motichoor Chaknachoor.

In 2020, he had three released films, Raat Akeli Hai, Ghoomketu and Serious Men. For his performance in Raat Akeli Hai and Serious Man, Nawaz won two Best Actor-Male Web Originals in Filmfare OTT Award. He also won International Emmy Award for Best Actor for his acting in Serious Men.

No Land’s Man was his only released film of 2021.

He was last seen in the film Heropanti 2 in 2022.

He has several upcoming films, Tiku Weds Sheru, Adbhut, Noorani Chehra, Sangeen, Bole Chudiyan, Afwaah and Jogira Sara Ra Ra.

He is the only actor in the world to have 8 films officially selected and screened at the Cannes Film Festival.
