Mumtaz Sorcar is an India Films Actress & Model who is known for her for works in the Bengali film industry. She was born on 15 September 1986 in Kolkata, West Bengal, India. She is the daughter of the famous magician PC Sorcar Junior and Jayashree Devi. Mumtaz Sorcar also fondly known as Pratiti Sorcarstarted her acting career by appearing in a music video for Mehreen, a singer from Bangladesh. Before making her debut on the silver screen, the actress first appeared in a short film titled Bhorai: The Maladies of Dawn, which was directed by Subhrajit Mitra. Mumtaz is best known for her roles in films like Musalmanir Galpo (2010), Rajbarir Rahashya (2011), Bhooter Bhabishyat (2012), Half Serious (2013), and Ashchorjo Prodeep (2013). Apart from appearing in Bengali films, the actress has also appeared in the Tamil movie Iruthi Suttru (2016), which was shot simultaneously in Hindi titled: Saala Khadoos (2016).

Mumtaz Sorcar started her career by appearing in a music video for Mehreen, a singer from Bangladesh. After making her acting debut with the short film, Bhorai: The Malady of Dawn in 2009, Mumtaz Sorcar made her feature film debut in 2010 with the Bengali drama film, 033 directed by the debutant director, Birsa Dasgupta. The film name, which symbolizes the STD code for Kolkata City, highlights the issue of the increasing youth migration outside Kolkata for better career opportunities. In the same year, the actress next appeared in Musolmanir Galpo (2009), a Bengali drama film directed by Pranab Chowdhury and co-starring Parama Sarkar, Biplab Chattopadhyay, and Anamika Saha. The actress got her first major hit in 2012 after director Anik Dutta cast her in his directorial debut Bhooter Bhabishyat alongside Sabyasachi Chakrabarty, Parambrata Chatterjee, Paran Bandopadhyay, Swastika Mukherjee, and Mir Afsar Ali.

After having a successful year in 2012, Mumtaz Sorcar started 2013 on a successful note as her film Half Serious directed by Utsav Mukherjee was well received by both the critics as well as the audiences. The film, which is a social satire that explores the underlying social issues like gender inequality and domestic violence, also featured Roopa Ganguly, Shilajit Majumder, and Saheb Bhattacharya in pivotal roles. The actress had two other releases in the same year, viz. The Play (2013) and Ashchorjo Prodeep (2013). Whilst the former did not garner any attention at the box office, the latter, which was based on a short story by Shirshendu Mukhopadhyay, opened to positive reviews and according to a report Ebola, a Bengali tabloid, it grossed 3.5 million INR in its opening week.

After appearing in Kanchenjunga Express, her only film in 2014, the actress next made her debut in both Bollywood and Tamil film industry with the bilingual film Saala Khadoos, which was simultaneously made in Tamil as Irudhi Suttru. The sports drama film is directed by Sudha Kongara and it features. Madhavan and Ritika Singh in the lead roles. The film received positive reviews from the critics with Behindwoods stating “Sudha`s Irudhi Suttru has all the emotional elements in it to strike a chord with the audiences and cast, has rendered their best performances.” Following the success of the Irudhi Suttru, the actress next appeared in a Bengali crime thriller film titled Dark Chocolate (2016). The film directed by Agnidev Chatterjee was based on the Sheena Bora Murder case and it featuresMahima Chaudhry and Riya Sen in the lead roles.
