Madhuri Dixit Nene is an Indian actress and television personality who is known for acting in Bollywood films. She was born on 15th May 1967 in Mumbai to Shankar and Snehlata Dixit. She has two elder sisters and an elder brother. She started learning Kathak when she was just three years old. Madhuri did her schooling at Divine Child High School, Andheri. She did her graduation with B.Sc. Later, she enrolled at the Sathaye College, Vile Parle to study microbiology. 

Madhuri made her film debut in 1984 with the Hindi film, Abodh. Her performance received several positive reviews from critics. In 1985, she appeared in the film Awara Baap. Swati was her only released film in 1986. In 1987, she starred in two films, Uttar Dakshin and Hifazat. In 1988, she had four releases, Khatron Ke Khiladi, Mohre, Dayavan and Tezaab. Her performance in Tezaab was highly acclaimed and she was nominated for Filmfare Award for Best Actress. Tezab marked the turning point of her career. It was a breakthrough performance for her. In 1989, she was seen in nine films, Vardi, Ram Lakhan, Prem Pratigyaa, Tridev, Kanoon Apna Apna, Parinda, Paap Ka Ant, Ilaaka, and Mujrim. But, her performance in Tridev and Prem Pratigyaa was highly acclaimed. Even she was nominated for her second Filmfare Award for Best Actress for her performance in Prem Pratigyaa. In 1990, Madhuri appeared in nine other films, Maha-Sangram, Deewana Mujh Sa Nahin, Jeevan Ek Sanghursh, Jamai Raja, Sailaab, Kishen Kanhaiya, Izzatdaar, Dil and Thanedaar. She won Filmfare Award for Best Actress for Dil. She starred in five films in 1991, Pyar Ka Devta, 100 Days, Pratikar, Saajan and Prahaar. For her performance in Saajan, she was nominated for Filmfare Award for Best Actress.

Later, in 1992, she acted in six films, Beta, Zindagi Ek Jua, Prem Deewane, Khel, Sangeet and Dharavi. For her performance in Beta, she won Filmfare Award for Best Actress. In 1993, she had five releases, Dil Tera Aashiq, Aasoo Bane Angaarey, Khalnayak, Sahibaan and Phool. She was nominated for another Filmfare Award for Best Actress for her performance in Khalnayak. In 1994, she had two releases, Hum Aapke Hain Koun..! and Anjaam. For her performance in two films, Madhuri won one Filmfare Award for Best Actress and one Screen Award for Best Actress Hum Aapke Hai Koun..! and was nominated for Filmfare Award for Best Actress. She was seen in three films in 1995. The films were, Raja, Paappi Devataa and Yaraana. She won a second Screen Award for Best Actress and a nomination for Filmfare Award for Best Actress for her performance in Raja. She was nominated for another Filmfare Award for Best Actress in the same year for her performance in Yaraana. Prem Granth and Rajkumar were her only released films in 1996. She was seen in five films in 1997, Dil To Pagal Hai, Mohabbat, Koyla, Mrityudand and Mahaanta. For her performance in Mrityudand, she received several positive reviews and the third Screen Award for Best Actress. Her performance in Dil Toh Pagal Hai was praised and won the fourth Filmfare Award for Best Actress and the Zee Cine Award for Best Actor – Female.

Next, in 1998, she made a special appearance in the film Bade Miyan Chote Miyan and Wajood. Aarzoo was her only released film in 1999. In 2000, she appeared in two films, Gaja Gamini and Pukar. Her performance in Pukar was praised by critics. She earned another nomination for Filmfare Award for Best Actress and Screen Awards for Best Actress. Yeh Raaste Hain Pyaar Ke and Lajja were her two released films in 2001. Her performance in Lajja helped her to earn a nomination for Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actress and won Zee Cine Award for Best Actor in a Supporting Role – Female. In 2002, she was seen in two films Hum Tumhare Hain Sanam and Devdas. She won Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actress and the Screen Award for Best Supporting Actress for her performance in Devdas. She also made her singing debut with the film Devdas Aaja Nachle was her only released film in 2007. She again sings another song for this film. She was nominated for another Filmfare Award for Best Actress. She made a special appearance in two songs in Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani and Bombay Talkies in 2013.

In the following years, in 2014, she appeared in the film Gulaab Gang and Dedh Ishqiya. She also sings a song for the film Gulaab Gang. For her performance in Dedh Ishqiya, she was nominated for Filmfare Award for Best Actress. In 2018, Madhuri made her Marathi debut with the film Bucket List. In that year, she gave her voice in Mowgli: Legend of the Jungle. In 2019, she made her debut as a producer with the film 15 August. She also appeared in two films, Total Dhamaal and Kalank. For her performance in Kalank, she earned a nomination for Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actress.

In 1985, she made her television debut with the serial, Paying Guest. She also appeared as a host and judge in several television serials, such as Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa, Food Food Maha Challenge, So You Think You Can Dance etc.

In 2022, she made her digital debut with the web series, The Fame Game.

In 2013, Madhuri launched her online dance academy “Dance With Madhuri”. In 2018, Dixit along with her husband, founded the production company, RnM Moving Pictures.

In 2008, she was awarded Padma Shri by the Government of India, the fourth highest civilian honour in the country.
