Karishma Kapoor is an Indian actress who is known for acting in Bollywood films. She was born on 25th June 1974 in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India to Randhir Kapoor and Babita. Her parents were actors and actresses. She has a sister, Kareena Kapoor. Actor and filmmaker Raj Kapoor was her grandfather. Actor Hari Shivdasani was her maternal grandfather. Actor Prithviraj Kapoor was her paternal great grandfather. Her uncles are actors Rishi Kapoor and Rajiv Kapoor. Her aunts are actress Nitu Singh and entrepreneur Ritu Nanda. Her first cousins are actors Ranbir Kapoor, Armaan Jain and Aadar Jain, and Nikhil Nanda. Actor Shammi and Shashi Kapoor are her grand uncles. Late actress Sadhana was her mother’s first cousin. Karishma did her schooling at Cathedral and John Connon School. Later, she studied at Sophia College. But she dropped out in the middle.

Karishma made her acting debut in 1991 with Prem Qaidi. Karishma’s presence seeks the attention of critics. Her performance was praised. She was seen in six films in 1992. For the first time, Karishma was nominated for Filmfare Awards for Best Female Debut for her performance in Sapne Sajan Ke. Judwaa, Hero No. 1, and Dil Toh Pagal Hai were her notable films of the year. Each of her performances was praised, but Dil Toh Pagal Hai was her best film of the year. Her performance was highly acclaimed and she won her first and only National Film Awards for Best Supporting Actress in the film. She also won her second Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actress. She also won two other awards and one nomination. 1999, was the most successful year of Karishma’s career. Each of her films was successful. She was seen in five films. She earned her second nomination in Filmfare awards for Best Actress for her performance in Biwi No. 1. She was also nominated for three other films for her performance in the film. She also appeared in five other films in 2000. Fiza was the most successful film of the year for her. It helped her to win her second Best Actress award for her third Filmfare Awards. She also won four other awards and two nominations for her performance. Zubeidaa, Aashiq and Ek Rishta were her three released film of 2001. Her performance was critically acclaimed by critics for her performance in Zubeidaa. For her performance, she was nominated for three awards and won Best Actress (Critics) at Filmfare Awards.

In 2006, she appeared in the film Mere Jeevan Saathi. In 2007, Karishma made her appearance in a song for the film Om Shanti Om. In 2011, Karishma gave her voice in Bodyguard. Dangerous Ishhq was her only released film in 2012. In 2013, Karishma made her appearance in a song for the film Bombay Talkies. She was last seen in a cameo role in the film Zero in 2018.

On 29th September 2003, Karishma married industrialist, CEO of Sixt India Sunjay Kapur. Together they have a daughter Samaira, born in 2005, and a son Kiaan born in 2010. They separated in 2016.
