Jisshu Ujjwal Sengupta is an Indian actor, producer, television presenter and anchor who is known for acting in Bengali, Hindi and Telugu films. He was born on 15th March 1977 in Kolkata, West Bengal to Ujjwal and Mukta Sengupta. He studied at the Julian Day School. He graduated from Heramba Chandra College in Economics.

He started his career in an advertising agency.

Jisshu made his acting debut with the television serial Mahaprabhu. His performance received positive reviews from the audience and was critically acclaimed. In 2011 he appeared in another Bengali TV serial, Aparajito. He also anchored several Bengali TV reality shows, such as Sa Re Ga Ma Pa, Gaane Gaane Tomar Mone, Jhalak Dikhhla Ja, Super Singer, Super Singer Junior, Hasiwala and Company and Egiye Bangla. He also hosted many award shows, including Filmfare Awards East 2017. He also appeared as a judge in the 2016 television show Dance Bangla Dance Junior.

He made his film debut with the 1999 Bengali film, Priyojon. 

In 2000, he appeared in two films, Shesh Thikana and Rinmukti.

In 2001, he had his only release, Ektu Choya.

In 2002, he has three releases, Chhelebela, Mr And Mrs Iyer and Kurukshetra.

In 2003, he appeared in three films, Abar Aranye, Moner Majhe Tumi and Guru.

In 2004, he starred in three films, Premi, Annaya Attachar and Sajani.

In 2005, Jisshu made his Hindi film debut with Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose: The Forgotten Hero. He also appeared in three other Bengali films, Swapno, Chore Chore Mastuto Bhai, and Shudhu Bhalobasha.

He has three releases in 2006, Tapasya, Hungama and Aamra.

In 2007, he appeared in the English language film The Last Lear. The film won several awards and Jisshu’s role was critically acclaimed.

In 2008, he starred in six films, Love, 90 Ghanta, Bor Asbe Ekhuni, Ek Nadir Galpo: Tale of a River, Golmaal and Premer Kahini. He got wide recognition and gained some popularity with these films.

He had two releases, Neel Akasher Chandni and Shob Charitra Kalponik in 2009. Jisshu’s role in Shob Charitra Kalponil was highly praised and critically acclaimed.

In 2010, he had another successful film, Abohoman. He had two other release in that year, Kokhono Biday Bolona and Arekti Premer Golpo.

Noukadubi and Takhan Teish is his two films of 2011.

He praised and received positive reviews for his role in Chitrangada: The Crowning Wish in 2012. He appeared in another Hindi film, Barfi! In that year.

In 2014, his role was highly praised and critically acclaimed in Jaatishwar. He had another Hindi release in that year, Mardaani. Sesh Bole Kicchu Nei is another release in that year.

In 2015, he had five releases. The films were, Bollywood films Piku, and Bengali films, Byomkesh Bakshi, Rajkahini, Arshinagar and Nirbaak. Rajkahini and Byomkesh Bakshi helped him to receive several positive reviews.

In 2016, he had five releases, Kelor Kirti, Zulfiqar, Byomkesh O Chiriyakhana, Hemanta and Aranya Deb. His performance received positive reviews and was critically acclaimed for Zulfiqar and Byomkesh O Chiriyakhana.

In 2017, he had five releases, The Bongs Again, Posto, Yeti Obhijaa, Byomkesh O Agnibaan, and Jio Pagla.

2018 was another successful year for Jisshu. He appeared in six films, Ghare & Baire, Amoli, Uma, Shonar Pahar, Ek Je Chilo Raja and Aranyadeb. Ghare & Baire, Uma, and Ek Je Chilo Raja were commercially successful and also helped him to receive several positive reviews from the audience and reviewers.

In 2019, Jisshu made his Telugu debut with NTR: Kathanayakudu. He appeared in two Hindi films in that year, Manikarnika and Mardaani 2. He also appeared in five Bengali films, Mukhomukhi, Basu Poribar, Mahalaya, Bornoporichoy and Ghawre Bairey Aaj.

He had two Telugu, three Hindi and one Bengali releases in 2020.  The films were, Aswathama, Bheeshma, Shakuntala Devi, Sadak 2, Durgamati and Shironam.

He had two Telugu and two Hindi releases in 2021.

In 2022, he appeared in two Bengali and one Telugu film so far.

He has an upcoming film, Palan.

He also acted in three webs series, Skyfire (2019), Tyoewriter (2019) and Criminal Justice: Behind closed doors (2020).

Jisshu loves to play cricket. Jisshu was the captain for the Bengal Tigers team, representing Cinema of West Bengal in the Celebrity Cricket League. He also supports several sports initiatives, such as Kolkata Marathon, charitable Football matches etc.

Apart from acting, Jisshu was ranked first in the Calcutta Times Most Desirable Men in 2015. He ranked 49th in Times Celebex in July 2015.

He married Nilanjana Sharma in 2004. Together they have two daughters, Sara and Zara.
