Dimple Kapadia is an Indian actress who is known for acting in Hindi films. She was born on 8th June 1957 in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India to Chunibhai Kapadia and Bitti. Her father was a Gujarati businessman. She has two sisters, Simple and Reem and one brother, Suhail. Actor Akshay Kumar is his son-in-law.

In 1973, Dimple made her acting debut with the film Bobby. Her performance was highly praised in the film and Dimple won her first Filmfare Award for Best Actress. In 1984, Dimple appeared in two films, Manzil Manzil and Zakhmi Sher. In 1985, she appeared in five films, Lava, Aitbaar, Arjun, Pataal Bhairavi and Saagar. Aitbaar, Arjun and Saagar marked her comeback in the industry. For her performance in Saagar, she won her second Best Actress award at the Filmfare Awards. In 1986, she made her Tamil debut with Vikram. Allah Rakha and Janbaaz were her two released Hindi films of that year. In 1987, Dimple had three releases, Insaniyat Ke Dushman, Insaaf and Kaash. Her performance in Kaash was highly acclaimed. She was seen in nine films in 1988. In 1989, she appeared in eight films. Drishti, Aag Ka Gola and Kali Ganga were her three released films in 1990. Her performance in Drishti was praised and she was named Best Actress (Hindi) of the year by the Bengal Film Journalists’ Association.

Later, in 1991, Dimple appeared in eight films. But her performance in Lekin was praised and she was nominated for Filmfare Award for Best Actress.  Prahaar: The Final Attack and Narasimha were her other hit films of the year. In 1992, she acted in four films, Karm Yodha, Angaar, Dil Aashna Hai and Maarg. For Angaar she received several positive reviews. In 1993, Dimple made her Bengali film debut with Antareen. Rudaali, Gunaah, Aaj Kie Aurat and Gardish were her four Hindi released films of the year. Her performance in Rudaali was highly acclaimed and she won National Film Award for Best Actress. She also won Filmfare Critics Award for Best Actress, and Best Actress honours at the Asia-Pacific Film Festival and the International Film Festival in Damascus for her performance in the film and was nominated for Filmfare Award for Best Actress. She earned a nomination for Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actress for her other performance in that year in Gardish. Pathreela Raasta and Krantiveer were her two released films in 1994. For her performance in Krantiveer Dimple won her fourth Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actress. From 1997 to 1999, she appeared in six films. Her performance in Dil Chahta Hai which was released in 2001 helped her to garner several positive reviews and her performance was highly acclaimed.

Next, from 2002 to 2006 she had five releases. In 2008, Dimple gave her voice in Jumbo. In 2009, Dimple appeared in two films, Luck by Chance and Phir Kabhi. Her performance in Luck by Chance helped her to earn a nomination for Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actress. In 2010, she starred in two films, Dabangg and Tum Milo Toh Sahi. Patiala House was her only released film in 2011. In 2012, Dimple made her Malayalam debut with Bombay Mittayi. The cocktail was her only released Hindi film of the year. What the Fish was her only released film in 2013. In 2014, Dimple had three releases, The Shaukeens, Gollu Aur Pappu and Finding Fanny. Dimple’s performance in Finding Fanny was praised and she was nominated for Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actress. In 2015, she was seen in Welcome Back. In 2019, she acted in the film Dabangg 3. In 2020, Dimple made her Hollywood debut with the American film Tenet. Angrezi Medium was her only released film of the year. In 2021, Dimple made her digital debut with the web series, Tandav. In 2022, she starred in A Thursday. 

She has three upcoming films, Brahmastra, Pathaan and an untitled film.

In 1998, she started a new company called The Faraway Tree, which sells candles that she designs.

On 27th March 1973, when Dimple aged 15 married actors Rajesh Khanna aged 30. Together they had two daughters, Twinkle Khanna (born in 1974) and Rinke (born in 1977). In 1982, Dimple separated from Rajesh Khanna.
