Anil Kapoor is an Indian actor and producer who is known for acting in Hindi films, international films and television series. He was born on 24th December 1956 in Chembur to Nirmal Kapoor and Surinder Kapoor. His father was a film producer. He has an elder brother, film producer Boney Kapoor, an younger brother actor Sanjay Kapoor and a sister, Reena Kapoor. Late actress Sridevi and producer Mona Shourie Kapoor were his sisters-in-law. Sandeep Marwah, founder of Noida Film City and owner of Marwah Studios is his brother-in-law.

Actor Arjun Kapoor and Mohit Marwah are his nephews and actress Janhvi Kapoor is his niece. Anil did his schooling at Our Lady of Perpetual Succour High School, Chembur. Later, he studied at, St. Xavier’s College, South Mumbai.

Anil made his film debut with the Hindi film Hamare Tumhare in 1979. He appeared in a cameo appearance. In 1980, he made his Telugu debut with Vamsa Vruksham. In that year, he also appeared in two Hindi films, Ek Baar Kaho and Hum Paanch. In 1982, he appeared in a supporting role in Shakti. In 1983, he made his Kannada film debut with Pallavi Anu Pallavi. In that year, he appeared in his first Hindi film leading role in Woh Saat Din.

In 1984, he appeared in four films, Mashaal, Andar Baahar, Laila and Love Marriage. For his acting in Mashaal, he gained popularity and wide recognition. His performance was praised, and he won his first Filmfare Awards for Best Supporting Actor in the film. In 1985, he also appeared in four films, Saaheb, Yudh, Mohabbat and Meri Jung. His performance in Meri Jung was praised, and he was nominated for his first Filmfare Award for Best Actor.

He had eight releases in 1986. His performance in Janbaaz, Karma was praised. In 1987, he appeared in four films, Itihaas, Mr India, Hifazat and Thikana. Mr India helped him to gain wide recognition and shot him to superstar status. He starred in six films in 1988. His performance in Tezaab helped him to earn his first Filmfare Award for Best Actor. He won his second Filmfare Award for Best Actor for his acting in Beta. In 1993, he was seen in two films, Roop Ki Rani CHoron Ka Raja and Gurudev. He had four releases in 1994. But his performance in 1942: A Love Story was praised and he was nominated for Filmfare Award for Best Actor. Trimurti was his only released film in 1995. His performance was praised again and he got a nomination for Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actor. He had three releases in 1996, Rajkumar, Loafer and Mr. Bechara.

In 1997, he made his Malayalam debut with Chandralekha. In the same year, he also acted in three films, Judaai, Virasat and Deewana Mastana. He won Filmfare Critics Award for Best Actor and was nominated for Filmfare Award for Best Actor for his performance in Virasat. Kabhi Na Kabhi, Gharwali Baharwali and Jhooth Bole Kauwa Kaate were his three released films in 1998. In 1999, he starred in four films, Hum Aapke Dil Mein Rehte Hain, Biwi No. 1, Mann and Taal. His performance in Biwi No. 1 and Taal was critically acclaimed, and earned a nomination for Filmfare Award for Best Comedian and won Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actor.

He was seen in four films in 2000. This is a successful year of Anil. He appeared in four films, Bulandi, Pukar, Hamara Dil Apka Paas hai and Karobaar: The Business of Love. In 2007, he appeared in Salaam-e-Ishq: A Tribute To Love and Welcome. His performance and comic timing in the Welcome were praised. He was nominated for Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actor for his acting. He made his international film debut with Slumdog Millionaire in 2008. He won Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture. He also starred in five other films that year.

In 2009, he appeared in two films as a special appearance. No Problem was his only released film in 2010. He made his second international and first Hollywood film, Mission Impossible – Ghost Protocol in 2011. Tezz was his only released film in 2012, which helped him to earn favourable reviews. He had four releases in 2013. In 2015, he won another Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actor for his performance in Dil Dhadakne Do. He was also seen in the film Welcome Back that year. Mubarakan was his only released film in 2016.

In 2018, he starred in two films, Race 3 and Fanney Khan. He also gave his voice in the Hindi dub version of Mowgli: Legend of the Jungle. He had four releases in 2019. Malang and AK vs AK were his two released films of 2020. Thar and Jug Jug Jeeyo were his two released films in 2022.

He had several upcoming films, Fighter, No Entry Mein Entry and Animal.

He made his debut as a producer in 2002 with Badhaai Ho Badhaai. He also produced several films, such as My Wife’s Murder, Gandhi, My Father, Aisha, No Problem, Thar etc. He won another National Film Award for Special Jury Award for the film, Gandhi, My Father.
