Vishal Veeru Devgan popularly known as Ajay Devgan is an Indian actor, film director and producer who is known for working in Hindi cinema. He was born on 2nd April 1969 in New Delhi, Delhi, India to Veeru Devgan and Veena. His father was a stunt choreographer and action-film director and his mother was a film producer. He has a brother, Anil Devgan, who is a filmmaker and screenwriter. Ajay did his schooling at the Silver Beach High School, Juhu and then graduated from Mithibai College.

Ajay made his acting debut in 1991 with the film Phool Aur Kaante. For his performance in the film, Ajay won Filmfare Award for Best Male Debut. In 1992, he was seen in the film Jigar. He had eight released films in 1993. In 1994, Ajay worked as an assistant director in the film, Madam X. He was seen in four other films that year. Dilwale was his most successful film of the year. Naajayaz, Hulchul, Gundaraj and Haqeeqat were his four released films in 1995.

In 1996, he starred in three films, Diljale, Jung and Jaan. In 1997, he acted in two films, Itihaas and Ishq. In 1998, he had four releases, Pyaar To Hona Hi Tha, Sar Utha Ke Jiyo, Major Saab and Zakhm. His performance in Zakhm was highly acclaimed and he won his first National Film Award for Best Actor. He also won Star Screen Award for Best Actor for his acting. He was seen in seven films in 1999. Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam was his most successful film of the year. He was also nominated for the Filmfare best actor award. In that year, he made his debut as a producer and produced two films, Hindustan Ki Kasam and Dil Kya Kare.

Later, in 2000, Ajay acted in two films, Raju Chacha and Deewane. He also produced the film, Raju Chacha. Yeh Raaste Hain Pyaar Ke, Tera Mera Saath Rahen and Lajja were his three released films in 2001. For his performance in Lajja, Ajay was nominated for the Filmfare Best Supporting Actor Award. In 2002, he starred in four films, Hum Kisise Kum Nahin, Company, The Legend of Bhagat Singh and Deewangee. Ajay was nominated for the Filmfare Best Actor Award and won the Filmfare Critics Award for Best Actor for his performance in Company. In that year, his other performance in the film, The Legend of Bhagat Singh was highly acclaimed and he won his second National Film Award for Best Actor.

Ajay won a Filmfare Best Villain Award, the Star Screen Award for Best Villain and the Zee Cine Award for Best Actor in a Negative Role for his performance in Deewangee. In 2003, Ajay appeared in seven films. Qayamat: City Under Threat, Gangaajal and LOC Kargil were his most successful films of the year. For his performance in Gangajal, Ajay was nominated for the Filmfare Best Actor Award. He had five releases in 2004, Taarzan: The Wonder Car, Khakee, Masti, Raincoat and Yuva.  He was seen in eight films in 2005. His performance in Apaharan was highly praised and he was nominated for the National Film Award for Best Actor and the Filmfare Best Actor Award. His other performance in the film Kaal helped him to earn a nomination for the Filmfare Best Villain Award.

Next, in 2006, he appeared in four films, Golmaal: Fun Unlimited, The Awakening, Omkara and Dharti Kahe Pukar Ke. His performance in Omkara and Golmaal: Fun Unlimited was praised. He also produced the film The Awakening that year. Aag and Cash were his two released films in 2007. In 2008, Ajay Devgn made his directorial debut with the film, U Me Aur Hum. He also produced and starred in the film. He also acted in five other films that year. In 2009, he acted and produced All the Best: Fun Begins and appeared in the film, London Dreams. He starred in seven films in 2010. Atithi Tum Kab Jaoge?, Raajneeti, Once Upon a Time in Mumbaai, Golmaal 3 and Aakrosh were his most successful films of the year.

In 2012,  he produced and acted in two films, Bol Bachchan and Son of Sardaar. He also acted in the film Tezz. Mahabharat, Himmatwala and Satyagraha were his three released films in 2013. He produced and acted in two films, Singham Returns and Vitti Dandu in 2014. Action Jackson was another acted film released that year. Hey Bro and Drishyam were his two released films of 2015. His performance in Drishyam was highly acclaimed.

In the following years, in 2016, he directed his second film, Shivaay. He also acted and produced it. Fitoor was his other released film of the year. In 2017, he appeared in four films. In 2018, he produced two films, Aapla Manus and Helicopter Eela. In that year, he acted in three films, Raid, Aapla Manus and Simmba. He produced and acted in the film Total Dhamaal in 2019. De De Pyaar De was his only released film of the year. In 2020, he produced and acted in the film, Tanhaji.  Tanhaji marked his 100th film. He won two National Awards for the Best Popular Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment and Best Actor. In that year, he produced another film, Chhalaang. In 2021, Ajaya produced four films and acted in two films. In 2022, Ajay directed his third film, Runway 34. He also acted and directed it. Gangubai Kathiawadi and RRR were his two released films of the year.

He has several upcoming films, such as Thank God, Cirkus, Drishyam 2, Bhola, Naam and Maidaan.

He gave his voice in two films.

Ajay made his digital debut with the 2022 web series, Rudra: The Edge of Darkness. He also produced a web series, The Great Indian Murder that year.

He produced two television shows, Swami Ramdev – Ek Sangharsh and Devi. He also appeared as a judge in the television show, Rock-N-Roll Family.

Later, in October 2015, Devgn established a visual effects company, NY VFXWAALA. The company won the Best Special Effects award at the 64th National Film Awards for the film Shivaay.

In 2016, he was honored by the Government of India with the Padma Shri, the fourth-highest civilian honor in the country.

Ajay married film actress Kajol on 24th February 1999. The couple has two children, daughter Nysa, who was born in 2003 and son, Yug, who was born in 2010.

Ajay Made his mark in Bollywood in the year 1991 with the movie Phool Aur Kaante. He then rose to prominence as an action hero starring in successful films such as Jigar (1992), Sangram (1993), Dilwale (1994), and Diljale (1996).
